Billboard Hot 100 Highlights July 9th, 2016

Looks like we're not getting much of a change in the Top 10 just yet. But, we're still getting some changeups in the Top 20 with the new twenty one pilots song proving to be a huge smash already. New Entries Ranked

1. Heathens
Deliciously dark. Very fitting of the Suicide Squad universe as far as I'm concerned. Tyler and Josh are insane on this one, which is a good thing. I guess it's not for everyone, but holy crap I think it's really good.

2. Dark Necessities
I hear this on the radio frequently but didn't think it would get on the Hot 100. But I'm glad it did. It takes RHCP's funk style and makes it darker. Like dark chocolate. With chili peppers. I don't know. After two decades, these guys have still got it. Fingers crossing this actually has some longevity in the mainstream.

3. Why You Always Hatin?
I feel like I should hate this a lot. It reminds me a lot of cheap mid-2000s rap. But something about that groove is undeniable. I like YG and Kamaiyah's parts more than Drake's, but that's to be expected. Still, this is a lot of fun despite a minimalist synth beat.

4. Night's On Fire
I feel like the only thing I'm gonna remember about this later is the Adam Levine "ooh's" in the post-chorus. Other than that, it's alright. Well-performed, David Nail's a decent singer. Just, not anything particularly special.

5. All In My Head (Flex)
All I could remember about this song was Fetty Wap's part. Kinda. I still feel like he shouldn't have to sing that high. Other than that...it's okay I guess. It does have a nice guitar lick going on, but the rest of the instrumentation kinda undoes it. The girls do a decent job, I guess. Most of my problems with this are with production.

6. What The World Need Now Is Love
Sigh... Yeah, the shootings of Christina Grimmie and at Pulse were tragedies. But, I kinda thought we agreed to stop making sappy charity singles. If you really wanna help, donate your money. Don't buy a song everyone's gonna forget about in a few days' time.

7. Ain't No Stopping Us Now
Dude, bro country is on the decline. Stop trying to bring it back. The chorus is very similar to Cruise. not a good sign. There's no charm to this song, only sleaze and retreads of dead trends.
