Billboard Hot 100 Highlights July 2nd, 2016

So, the bottom third of the Hot 100 had a lot of new and old coming in. It was inevitable after a sparse week. Plus, JT gets a bit of a second chance at the Top spot, while Sia and Kent Jones enter the Top 10 with some summer jam songs. For better or for worse. And I see Meghan Meghans on the horizon. New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Hymn For The Weekend
I was /way/ too hard on this song when it originally debuted. Now it just sounds awesome to me. It's bright and colorful as well as powerful. Beyoncé really should have an official credit on this song, though.

2. Champions
This is actually a pretty awesome group joint track. A bit of a slow burn, but once I felt it, I felt it. It's a strand of hope in a sea of awful new entries this week.

3. Different For Girls
So this is back. Glad it is. Bentley and King sound good together and it's well-composed. Decent lyrics as well, though I wish they were a little deeper.

4. Try Everything
No doubt back because Zootopia released on home media. It's still mediocre. Though I'm surprised it didn't get higher on the charts initially. Seems like the type.

5. Toothbrush
I'm one of the few who defends Cake By The Ocean. But this isn't that good. There's good instrumental ideas, but it feels cluttered. Joe's performance isn't good. Also the lyrics are dumb. So I won't be defending this one. Could be worse though.

6. We Don't Talk Anymore
So this got released as a single. Wonderful. It still sucks. That is some pretty bad production, bland vocal performances. And this is one of the better songs off Nine Track Mind. That's pretty sad.

7. My PYT
Uhhhhhh...cheap synths and silly accents. I'm probably not supposed to take this seriously, but it's not good. This just leaves me scratching my head.

8. Broccoli
I...don't get it.

9. Sweatshirt
I avoided this song like the plague. Mostly because it seemed like this year's Friday, and I have no use for that. And yep, it's bad. It's inexperienced, cheap-sounding, and seems to rip off Thomas Rhett's T-Shirt. Charming.

10. THat Part
Likely here because the video dropped. Still sloppy and less clever or intimidating than it thinks it is. Q, you're better than this.

11. Money Longer
Can we, for the love of god, /stop/ making novelty rappers chart? This falls into the same category as Uber Everywhere to me: it sounds like a novelty without anything particularly interesting or memorable. This is worthless.
