New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Good Old Days

Figures what a full week of tracking and an album release will do. No sign of Marmalade, but that's fine. This is the best of the singles anyway. Similar sort of sound to Same Love, and that's a good thing. Kesha delivers a soulful chorus, with Mack reflecting on his past, but not letting it consume him. Combine that with punchy pianos and a general feel-good atmosphere. I love me some Macklemore.

2. Plain Jane

Hey, this kinda bangs. The beat starts out kinda weird, but gets going once the bass fleshes it out. Ferg also sounds engaging. Kinda feels like he's channeling his inner Shaggy or something, which I can appreciate. Writing's not bad either. It's got some clever punchlines in there. Yeah, I don't mind this.

3. Losing Sleep

I like me some Chris Young. Should probably listen to him more often. This song isn't particularly special, but it has an amazing chorus. Strong guitars, strong singing, and it's overall pretty romantic and awesome. Good song.

4. Round Here Buzz

Nice to see Eric Church back. I'm still not too happy Record Year wasn't a crossover hit. Ah well. Round Here Buzz is good too. A little better than Kill A Word, but not one of my favorites I've heard from this guy. I think the guitar licks could've been better developed, for one. But the emotional core is strong, and it's still enjoyable. Not great, but certainly good.

5. Go Flex

This originally charted over a year go during the same week of BeyoncĂ©'s Lemonade album bomb. At the time I don't remember thinking it was that bad.  Relistening to it now? Eh. Still not that bad. Though the presentation seems to give the impression that Post is miserable or hurt, but the lyrics actively contradict that. But whatever. The instrumentation's not bad. Somehow this is more engaging than White Iverson, which is weird.

6. Like I Loved You

This is...pretty ugly. Usually Brett's drawl is endearing, but here it feels kinda sour. That guitar lick that anchors the prechorus also feels off, as well as the organ. Also the lyrics are pretty pissy and uncomfortable. I get that it's a breakup song, but he's directly refusing to be the bigger man about this. Makes it very uncomfortable, and not a song I wanna hear in this vein. Massive disappointment after In Case You Didn't Know.

7. I Fall Apart

Oh wow this is ugly. In both tone and sound. I don't know what's going on with this insturmentation. It sounds incomplete. Heavy bass with pitch shifted in the background. Ugly, straight up ugly. Plus, Post is pissed about a breakup and it's like, what are you doing? His performance is straight up not good too. It's shaky and warbly and I can't imagine wanting to listen to this again. If this becomes a single and subsequently a hit...my god.
