New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Too Much To Ask

Well, at least we got one Niall track to come back. Though I would've preferred Seeing Blind, On The Loose, or Since We're Alone. But this still ain't bad. Just some minor gripes with the writing, but otherwise am happy for this to return.

2. Candy Paint

You know it's a rough week when Post Malone has one of the better debuts. Now this is a song from the Fate of the Furious soundtrack from half a year ago that's only getting traction now because Post Malone...killed a demon or something. It's alright, but it doesn't really strike me as an F&F song. The beat is chill and inoffensive. Plus Post isn't insufferable. In fact he gets a humorous reference to The Office of all things in there. Not great, but in a week like this I'll take it.

3. Patek Water

This is...surprisingly not bad. The melody feels underdeveloped as you would expect, but it's still energetic. Young Thug sounds...alright. Future is...Future. But then we get Offset who makes the song much more worth hearing than anything else I've heard from this tape. Offset seems to be getting more solo features lately, and I definitely prefer him to Quavo usually. So yeah. Decent song. Can see why it was the highest charting from this album.

4. Bedroom Floor

So here's Liam's stab at a conflicting relationship. Maybe along the lines of What Do You Mean? That's what comes to mind with the lyrics about a girl saying he hates Liam but continues to sleep with him. And honestly, I think Bieber pulled that off a little better. Though the tropical vibes, including that reverb steel drum, are incredibly catchy, so that's nice. But Liam's falsetto isn't great, and his habit of repeating words to fit the meter and especially the main chorus line are kinda annoying. I had heard this song before and liked it a bit, but I think it's soured on me. Not bad, but has some problems that kinda pile up.

5. Three

Young Thug and Future sound really staticy on this song. Not a good idea. Also the beat oddly favors treble, which makes Thug's part especially weird. Overall, it's...tolerable at best. At least there's some energy to the production and performances. Even if it's the same old crap. Not terrible.

6. Wolves

Aww, I wanted Kanye! Jokes aside, this is a mess. There's a bit in the beginning that sounds pleasant, if a little empty thanks to Selena's vocals. But then Marshmello's beat gets really harsh and unpolished, which is a weird choice for a song line this about devotion. But it's the drop where it gets especially cluttered with the wolf vocals(?) and deep bass. Way too much going on that it gets disorienting. Silence this is not.

7. Gorgeous

So far this is the best Taylor Swift song from this album rollout, almost entirely due to the fact that the beat is less in-your-face than Look What You Made Me Do and ...Ready For It?. But...god the writing is bad. Some of her worst. This boy is supposed to be happy he's being treated like crap because he's "gorgeous." It's a narrative that contradicts itself at every turn, and overall just goes sour. It also makes Taylor look more shallow than she has been in the past. I am really not looking forward to this album.

8. No Cap

Well, points for that guitar line, I guess. Even if you can barely hear it. But you lose points for that horn call, you know the one. This has more energy and personality than some of the other songs from this album, even if Young Thug feels misused and monotone. Even Future has more inflection than him on this song. I shouldn't be able to say that. Forgettable at worst.

9. Meant To Be

Oh my god this took forever to get here. And yeah, it's just as bad as I expected it to be. Largely it feels like a retread of H.O.L.Y, with the autotune and melody, and trying to present their questionable lyrics as mature. Not quite as bad, but still kinda sickening. It's more pop than it is country, and despite being the lead artist, Bebe Rexha adds nothing to the song. This could've been a solo FGL song. Yeah, pass.

10. All Da Smoke

Oh good, my favorite kind of Future song. The kind where there's basically no beat outside the percussion. If you can get turnt to this you can get turnt to anything. It's this kind of beat that doesn't flatter Thug at all, especially with his T-Pain imitations. It's boring, it does nothing for me, etc.

11. 4 da Gang

With no Young Thug in sight, we get just Future doing his typical shtick over a beat that barely has any treble. Just a barely audible harp and light flute melody. Maybe in an attempt to remake Mask Off? Yay for recycling. At least he sounds more alive here than he did there, but this doesn't make this song any good. Or less derivative.

12. Feed Me Dope

With a title like this, I can only imagine Future is acting like a baby who doesn't know how to take drugs or take care of himself. Other than that, this has the same shaking bass that sounds like crap along with some vaguely spooky synths that are supposed to sound hype but just aren't. This sounds like it just could've been on Future's self-titled, not on an album he's sharing with someone who's basically a higher-pitched Future.
