New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Curve

I feel like I should like this a lot less than I do. Surprisingly more for Gucci than for The Weeknd. How does that happen?

2. Mayores

"Greater". Was legitimately not expecting to see another Becky G song chart after Shower in 2014. But it looks like she struck gold with Latin music. And it's good for a Latin song. The guitars are nice, Becky sounds much better than she did in 2014. And Bad Bunny is pretty cool too. It's good, but kinda generic.

3. Yours

My friend jfarbzz aka Jordan the Music Man really loves this song and has been wanting it to chart for a long time. And while I don't like it nearly as much as he does, it's alright. I wouldn't call it particularly special, as it hits all the usual notes for a country love song. But Russell Dickerson is pretty sincere, which is a huge plus, especially this week in country. Also it has a nice, brief guitar solo. Pretty alright with this.

4. Ask Me How I Know

I'm conflicted on this song. Sounds nice and all. But the lyrics are about how Garth tells someone that they're gonna meet a girl who's gonna leave them and end up like him. And I'm not exactly sure how this is supposed to be framed. What's the context? Is he just being bitter or something? This kinda leaves me in a sour place. I want to like it, but I don't know if I can.

5. High End

Well this...certainly exists. It seems to be Chris' attempt at dark, horror-inspired R&B. So what better way to do that than with Future and Young Thug? Bleh. Future in particular sounds like crap, as usual. Chris is...fine, I guess? Young Thug is the highlight of this, which I probably should've expected. The beat's average, I guess. I feel like it would've been better if it was mostly a Young Thug song. I ended up not minding this as much as I thought.

6. Let You Down

This is my first time witnessing a Christian rapper crossing over to the Hot 100. And I'm mixed on it. It's a song about regret and does play up the reverb and pitch-shifted vocals. And NF's technique is impressive. But this feels more depressing than it really should be. I can't pinpoint exactly why this doesn't click with me, but it just doesn't.

7. Stunting Ain't Nuthin

Like most other Gucci Mane songs, Gucci only gets one verse, and he doesn't feel like he's pulling his weight as a result. It's more a Rae Sremmurd song without Swae Lee, since Jxmmi handles the hook and one verse. And it's kind of a long chorus. Young Dolph...recently got shot thanks to Yo Gotti so I'd rather not say anything bad about him right now. The bass bleeds and sounds bad, and the beat overall is just boring. Empty flexing. And because there's three lengthy verses it's over 5 minutes long.

8. You Broke Up With Me

Okay, first of all this guy's kinda annoying. He's apparently a country song but he sounds more like an Andy Grammer type. And I like Andy Grammer. Second, a song with this title should not be this upbeat. Like, what is the point of this? Is this a kiss-off? He denies it in the lyrics. But God the tone is so confused. As such, this is just unnecessarily sour and pretty insufferable. The instruments are fine, but wow, overall this isn't good.

    1. The year end typically drops in the second or third week of December. No set date is given. However, there are still three weeks left that count toward 2017.
