New and Returning Entries
1. Weak
I'M WEAK! AND WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT? BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH
2. Either Way
I'm still not particularly impressed by this. Sounds fine and is well executed but it's not the most engaging thing in the world. Maybe I would like it more if I listened to Chris' new album? Also it's starting to resemble Sam Smith's Lay Me Down, which I'm honestly not particularly fond of.
3. Deja Vu
The best song with this title to chart this year. I'm not even kidding. It's nothing special, but as an original composition it shows off Lauren's vocal talents pretty well. She really deserved to win The Voice this season.
4. The Dance
A Garth Brooks cover for The Voice. Like usual, I'm not familiar with old country. But this is pleasant enough. The strings are well played and Lauren still sounds good. Guess this is supposed to be a slow dance.
5. Most Girls
Okay, this song confuses me. Hailee describes "most girls" in this song as having positive qualities like strength, etc. And there's nothing wrong with that inherently. But she also describes petty stereotypes in the verses and it kinda muddies the message. As such I'm conflicted on how to feel about the lyrics. The beat's solid though. Kinda Shape of You like, but is distinct and catchy enough that I can enjoy it.
6. Swish Swish
Oh god she's still going for trap influences. Actually to be fair this is probably the best of the singles for Katy's upcoming album. The chorus drop is somehow annoying yet catchy at the same time. Though it still seems too dark and hamfisted for Katy freaking Perry. Also Nicki's verse references Migos because of course.
7. Yours If You Want It
Country song about showing a girl a good time. Standard stuff I guess. Tonally sounds fine but not much pops. I guess someone sang it on The Voice and that's why it got popular. Also in the music video a customer flirts with a waitress but then it turns out it was a fantasy and then she gives him her number? What?
8. Money on You
So, this guy won The Voice, eh? And he wasn't even the highest Voice debut this week. I'm honestly surprised this guy won, because he does very little for me. I can appreciate him going for funk, but as funk song, this is pretty unmemorable. Kinda by the numbers instrumentation. And Chris Blue doesn't have a very interesting voice. He does falsetto and all, but he's not powerful enough to pull off what he wants to do. Not a lot of personality either. Seriously, Lauren Duski impressed me way more.
9. Subeme La Radio
So, this still exists. Still not /that/ bad but still awfully derivative. Like an attempt to recreate Bailamos. Which I also don't really remember too well, to be honest.
10. Crying in the Club
CAMILA CABELLO CANNOT SING WHY DOES SHE KEEP TRYING TO...cough. Sorry. The first minute or so is full of these droning synths and then suddenly it becomes Shape of You. That part would probably be pretty good if it weren't for Camila's vocals and the droning synths. Something about those just puts me on edge. They feel like a substance for something that could hit harder.
11. Gyalchester
So apparently Drake performed this at the Billboard awards. Why? It's such a dull, bad song.
12. Boy
I was looking forward to this because Lee Brice's last Hot 100 hit was 2014's excellent I Don't Dance. This on the other hand...ho boy. (No pun intended.) Brice spends the entire time explaining to his son's face all the ways he's going to mess up. And it's framed as heartwarming. No. The thought of a man telling his offspring all the ways he's going to do wrong is horrifying to me. If Zac Brown Band did a song about fatherhood right, this is doing it so damn wrong.
13. Strip That Down
I was kidding when I said Liam would be a rapper. Okay, he's not really a rapper, more an R&B singer who's taking ideas from hip hop. And god this is unpleasant. The beat's mostly limp bass and gang vocals. And the lyrics are forced drugs sex money crap. Say what you want about Zayn, he at least had some sort of subtlety to him. Yeah, Liam's pretty much in last place for the One Direction solo careers now. Can't believe I'm saying that.
I was not expecting you to like having AJR's Weak to re-enter. There actually is a small section of music people that really like Hits 1's Weekend Countdown, but one person doesn't really love Weak as much as you. In fact he actually has it as the worst song on the WC right now.

Honestly I don't think Weak is /that/ good, but the rest of this week wasn't very good so it's kinda at the top by default.
DeleteYeah, I don't really like Weak all that much either. In fact I wouldn't say I hate it, but I definitely don't like the stab at dubstep and electronica elements, that make it sound so weird and off kilter. That and the vocals are weak and the lyrics, oh boy how do I say this without offending my entire generation of special snowflakes.
Delete"That and the vocals are weak"
DeleteI don't know if a pun was intended there :P
You could imply it, but it wasn't intended.
