New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. My Old Man

Glad to see this back because of the album. It's sweet, though it likely won't go anywhere. Somber country like this tends not to perform very well.

2. Whatever It Takes

Digging it. Don't have a lot to say about it but I do like it. I like Dan's fast rap-like flow at points and the chorus swells nicely. It's a pleasant song, and so far the best of the singles leading up to Imagine Dragons' next album.

3. Ghost In This House

Must not be a very exciting season of The Voice is it's taken until the semi-finals for a song to chart. Looks like this is a cover of a Shenandoah song. Not familiar with the original honestly. But this isn't bad. It's somber and sweet, Lauren Duski actually has a pretty good voice. Though I'm sure the original is better.

4. Rollin

Calvin Harris had a great track record this year and I'm still looking forward to his album, but I think this broke the streak. There's elements of this that I like, such as the melody and Khalid's chorus. But I'm not a fan of the warbling and Future kinda clashes big time with this beat. Also it's clear he's having trouble keeping up with the tempo. I want to like this more than I do considering how good Slide and Heatstroke were. Maybe this needs to grow on me.

5. Felices los 4

"Happy Four." I don't have much to say about this. It's just a dull Latin song to me. Not terrible, but I don't see much replay value in this.

6. Me Enamore

"I fell in love." This is...confusing. A lot of the space in the production is filled with these light, high-pitched beeping sounds, and that doesn't exactly do much for me. Overall it just feels like an awkward pop song. And it probably is an awkward pop song. Not exactly terrible, but confusing and kinda unpleasant. Also it reuses some of the stuttering that annoyed me in Chantaje, so there's that.

7. No Promises

I have not heard good things about Cheat Codes in the past. This is my first time hearing a song from them, and yeah, those things are correct. The production feels so cheap and choppy, and the drop in particular is shrill. The kind of "nst nst" beat that grates on my nerves. Also Demi Lovato unfortunately doesn't save things. She sings in a high register and at times sounds like Camila Cabello. I shouldn't be able to say that about a powerhouse of a vocalist like Demi. Also the Cheat Codes member who's singing doesn't impress me either.

8. Bad Liar

God this song is so barren. All it's got going for it is a variation of the bassline from Psycho Killer by Talking Heads. But there's so much unused space in the production other than that. Not enough treble or percussion. Doesn't help that Selena Gomez's voice is so thin. This is about as bad as minimalism can get in music. I don't like it.

9. Bon Appetit

Just my luck that the video essentially goes viral and lets this return higher than before. It's still atrocious and I don't want to think about it anymore.
