New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Hard Times

I've seen my friends rave about this song, and the hype was well deserved. It's good to see Paramore back. It's tropical influenced but managed to have its own identity. Reminds me a lot of new waves. Plus it's good to hear an awesome rock song on the Hot 100 again. I guess there was top, but their genre is debatable. Eh. Please let this stick around. Paramore are due for another hit after three years.

2. Attention

I expected to really hate this. A Charlie Puth song where he smack talks an ex? Yeah, no way that can be good. In fact, at the beginning, it did actually suck a lot. But once that first chorus kicked in...oh man, this groove. The guitars and bass are incredible. The lyrics are still pissy in a way I don't buy, but credit where credit is due. Those guitars are really good. I guess it's kinda like old Maroon 5 in that way. Yeah. I like a Charlie Puth song...please help.

3. If I Told You

Didn't expect this to return, but I'm glad it did. Sweet country. Like I like it.

4. Prblms

Oh hey new peak. Of course this was killed by the Kendrick album bomb originally. But hey, this might have a shot after all. And I pray it does.

5. There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back

It's not bad. Aside from that sharp guitar lick. Not sharp in a good way. But as far as acoustic-ish songs incorporating tropical elements, it could've been a lot worse. It's earnest, Mendes sounds fine. It'll probably be a hit, and easily his best in some time.

6. Lust For Life

I have no idea what to think of this and it frustrates me. I guess the bass feels overproduced and it's weird to hear Lana Del Rey over something this imposing. This feels a lot more like a Weeknd song than it does a Lana song. Also for a song that repeats the phrase "take off all your clothes", it's not as sexy as I think it should be. In fact, I'm not quite sure what feeling it's going for. I play the neutral card here.

7. Still Got Time

Wait didn't Zayn and PARTYNEXTDOOR feud or something? Something about unfollowing? Maybe it's a publicity stunt. I pray it doesn't work. Though between it and the music video recently released, it looks like it's working like a charm.

8. My Girl

Something about this guy's voice pissed me off. Deep and syrupy, yet oddly sinister. The chorus really doesn't have as much power as it thinks it does. Also that line where he says his girl raps along to Eminem...you know you're a country artist, right? And it's not 2013 anymore, right? Yeah, hard pass on this.

9. do re mi

I was surprised to find that blackbear had a negative reputation in my circle. Mostly because Mansionz, his collaboration with Mike Posner, was really good. Hearing this, yeah I get it now. This is a trashy mess. Guess that album was mostly good thanks to Mike's charm and humor. Because on his own, blackbear is really spiteful and pairing himself with garbagey, overwhelming bass. Pass.
