New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Way Down We Go

Ooh, I was not expecting this. I've been hearing this on alternative radio for more than half a year at this point. Or rather two different versions. Each in different keys. This is an icy, gritty track about...I don't know. Something menacing. But the hints of blues and slow, stomping percussion leaves a huge impact. Like Hozier, except better structured. Still, if this sticks around, I'll be amazed. Though it damn well deserves to.

2. Parachute

Yes. Please. Chris Stapleton needs a hit, and this is best the song I've heard of his. It's unlikely, but I'd love to see this hit the top 40/30.

3. 80s Mercedes

I am definitely okay with this getting a second wind. If only briefly. May be the farthest thing from country, but it's still poppy and fun and I love everything about it.

4. Moves

A flexing track, but a good one. I wish Sean didn't sound half asleep on the hook, but other than that, the beat's dark and spacey. Sean's got some great bars and technique. I will take it. Probably over Bounce Back in all honesty.

5. Kill A Word

Somber and powerful, and still relevant as ever. Returning for the second time, so I doubt it'll make an impact, but we'll see. I'd love to see it stick around.

6. Goosebumps

Oh just release a video already.

7. Seein' Red

Romantic country rock song. It sounds great, even if it isn't particularly intelligent. I'll take it over Mind Reader, that's for sure. My only real issue is the chorus doesn't have the same grit on the guitars that the verses has. Feels a little incomplete. Aside from minor mixing issues, this one kicks ass.

8. Careless Whisper

WAIT A MINUTE THIS IS THAT SEX SAX SONG! I'm pretty sure I figured this out at one point but forgot about it. Even beyond the iconic sax bit, this is sensual and controlled. George Michael puts on a good show and makes this classic.

9. Faith

And now for something completely different. It's an acoustic guitar song with a lot of style, flair, and charisma. This kinda borders on glam rock, just more stripped back. And I'm alright with that. Rest in peace, sir.

10. hate u love u

Apparently some people don't like Olivia O'Brien's voice. Which I don't really understand but whatever. I think they overdid it on the reverb here, but otherwise I do appreciate the addition of synths and some percussion to give the original instrumental a little more punch. Also the verse Olivia added is fine. I'm one of the few who will stick up for the original, and that'll probably be the same with this.

11. Black Barbies

I still don't really like the hook on this, but this time around I'm appreciating some of the bars. Especially the lines where Nicki takes shots at Donald Trump. I still prefer the Rae Sremmurd version though, for some reason. Maybe because it doesn't have as many awkward pauses.

12. My S**t

Still a little too novelty to fully endorse, but catchy and inoffensive nonetheless.

13. Timeless

I dig this production. A lot. It's dark and weedy but also energetic and interesting. I just wish the content was more interesting. This is the kind of sound I imagine Desiigner or Travis Scott taking on. Not really A Boogie wit Da Hoodie. His voice is too squeaky for it. Plus it's about girls and drugs. Because duh. Not a bad song precisely, but one that could've used a different MC.

14. Sex With Me

Okay. But why?

15. iSpy

Well the instrumental's nice. It's bouncy and weird. I can dig it. Kind of a slow burn. Not sure I like the MC's though. KYLE spends his verse being kind of a dick. In fact, he continues to be one on the chorus, even as he's trying to get with the girl he's talking about. Which is just...what?

16. Think A Little Less

You know, a romantic song doesn't really have the same impact when you acknowledge it's just a one night stand. At least that's the impression I get from the second verse. Other than that, this really doesn't do anything for me. Generic country instrumentation and no-presence singer. Feels like some bro country leftovers from when that genre still had some legs.

17. Shaky Shaky

Oh god. This song has some admittedly really slick and cool guitars squandered by the percussion and Daddy Yankee being a loudmouth. I can't tell what he's saying, but judging by his tone and the video, he's perving over some girls. And he's probably not doing it well. Puerto Rico, you can keep this, since you're clearly raking in views there.

18. No Flockin

Dead, repetitive trap beat. Kodak Black's voice sucks, and the content is empty. As one would expect. The only thing I remember about the lyrics is Kodak demanding his girl go down on him instead of proposing to her. Which is dickish and uncomfortable. If there's any justice I'll forget listening to this song in a few days.
