New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. That's What I Like

Obviously back because it was recently released as the next single from the album. Again, wouldn't have been my choice for the next single, but it's still pretty good. My only real complaint is the trap percussion, but eh.

2. Million Reasons

Still got some fight left in it. It may not go anywhere at this point, but hey, I still love it.

3. Fast

Luke Bryan made a ballad called Fast. Dammit, Luke Bryan, can't you do anything right? Actually, credit where it's due, this is actually kinda good. I guess Luke alternates between releasing abominations and tolerable songs as singles with this album. The instrumentation's somber and nice, with good sentimental lyrics about growing up and life going too fast. It's surprisingly well-executed for the man. Not spectacular, but it surprised me.

4. Running Back

A football themed rap song. It's not really that bad, but I would imagine such a song being more energetic and bassy and less trap. Still, as far as trap goes, this works for me. It's bouncy and happy at least, and Wayne's guest verse is decent. May not be something I come back to often but yeah, I'll take it.

5. Road Less Traveled

Inspirational pop country song. So it's got good intentions. Though it's pretty generic and not exactly memorable. Still, in a week like this, I'll take what I can get. Even if I'm probably not coming back to this often.

6. If The Boot Fits

Whoops thought I wouldn't have to care about Granger Smith again. Actually I still probably won't have to, since this won't get very far regardless. I still find this song kinda stupid for the fairy tale gimmick. But eh, it could be worse.

7. Any Ol' Barstool

I thought we've been over this. If you make a song about how you don't care about something, chances are you definitely do still care about it. That's one of the worst ways you can frame a breakup song, Jason. Still, as far as botched breakup songs go, it doesn't make me angry, and the instrumentation's decent enough. Eh.

8. Good Drank

2 Chainz teams up with two guys who recently got their first number 1s. And dear god this is dull. Slow, unchanging piano melody with dull trap percussion. Does nothing for me. But it's not something worth getting angry about. It's just kinda there. You know that Young Thug dropped a great new video recently, right? Put that back on the Hot 100 already. It's also a much better song.

9. Issues

Dull. This might've had some impact if it was played like some bombastic ballad, but because the instrumentation is mostly bass it loses any impact it could've had. And it's not even interestingly quirky, it's just boring and limp. If you want to make an interesting song about a complicated relationship, you need to try harder than this.

10. Love On The Weekend

Do I need to say anything? Thought not.

11. Dancing On My Own

Ooh, NMR/TMIPOTI/B-Side had a field day with this song a while ago. Apparently this is a cover of a Robyn song. And it seems to miss the point of the original, since the lyrics are about being in a club. And the original was a dance song. Yeah, probably should've stayed a dance song. The remix of I Took A Pill In Ibiza is better than the original for similar reasons. I don't really feel anything with this barebones instrumentation, and Calum Scott sounds like Adam Levine going through puberty. Not a fan. I also listened to the original and it's much better.

12. Guys My Age

Is this girl trying to be Melanie Martinez? Just without the weird fetish stuff? This is just pretentious electropop disguised as a feminist anthem. And it's annoying. Very annoying. Annoying bass, annoying vocals, annoying lyrics. Apparently this is another divisive song in our community. Yeah, sorry, I kinda hate this. A lot.
