You know, for a song that mostly got big off a meme, you would think Black Beatles would've been unseated by now. But unfortunately due to the latest drama going down in the music industry, the thing that might be unseating it could be...Camila Cabello. Don't let the numbers fool you, that song is making a comeback next week. In the meantime, we've got a J. Cole album bomb. Happy new year. HIGHLIGHTS TIME!

New and Returning Entries Ranked
1. Foldin Clothes
I love the bass on this song. Seriously, that groove is fantastic and the tone is perfect. Plus, the lyrics are about Cole taking care of his pregnant wife. See, that's sweet. I can get behind that. My only problem is that the last verse feels disconnected from the rest of the song.
2. Change
This beat is bumpin'. It's kinda minimalist, but still energetic and brings a good kind of jazz to the table. Plus Cole's talking about the struggles of growing up where he did. I can get behind that. These are the kinds of J. Cole songs that work best for me. Energetic and focused lyrics.
3. How Far I'll Go
So, I've actually seen Moana since the Moana bomb. So now I'm able to appreciate what the lyrics are talking about. It's a nice song. I still prefer the Auli'i Cravalho version for her cleaner vocals and production. Still, Alessia's version works for what it is.
4. At Last
Once again we got no covers from The Voice until the very end. I didn't recognize the title but I do remember hearing this song in commercials or movies or something. I can't remember exactly but it feels common. Mr. Head here actually does a great job with it, turning it into a sweeping country-ish ballad. He's got a nice voice and the strings are well-done. So yeah. Good stuff.
5. Darlin' Don't Go
So this is an original song from Mr. Head, unlike the other song he performed on the finale of The Voice. It's not as good as the cover, but it still gets the job done. Generic, but nothing really wrong with it on a technical level. Plus it does have an electric guitar solo. Sweet.
6. 4 Your Eyez Only
When I saw that this track was 8 minutes long, I was worried it would drag. And somehow, it doesn't really feel that long. Even though the instrumentation doesn't change much, it feels like it utilizes every second really well. Basically it reveals how most of the album has been about a friend of Cole's still struggling in the streets. So yeah, pretty good closer, I'd say.
7. She's Mine Pt. 2
Light instrumentation actually works here pretty well. I like the lyrics about J. Cole's newborn daughter. It's all very sweet. I wish Cole himself didn't sound half-asleep. The first part also has this problem, which I talk about below, but I do feel this part at least fixes some of the problems the first part has. So yeah, decent song. A little too long though.
I was gonna give this an intro/10, but I actually really like the jazzy instrumentation. Plus the lyrics about hopelessness, which actually feel very genuine. Solid start.
9. She's Mine Pt. 1
Lyrically this is about J. Cole's wife. Yeah, I can get behind that. That's a good thing to write a song about. I just wish it wasn't boring to listen to. Yeah the lyrics are touching, but the instrumentation's really lightweight and Cole himself sounds half asleep. I guess it's supposed to sound like a lullaby, but it's still boring. Sorry.
10. Neighbors
Solid concept for a song. The cops showing up at Cole's door because the neighbors think he's selling drugs. At least I think that's what's happening. This beat's not doing much for me though. It feels incomplete, mostly a muted bass synth. It's okay, could've been better.
11. Just Hold On
Kinda loud for my tastes. Also there's something about Louis Tomlinson's voice that kinda bothers me. Not that he's a bad singer, maybe it's just a little pitchy? He's got power. And this is an okay melody. Maybe I'm just not in the proper mood for it right now.
12. Immortal
I don't like the beat to this. It's pretty cheap and I'm not sure what it's going for with that flute. The content however is surprisingly strong. All about the dangers of the ghetto. Also the beat switches up into something more pleasant and cohesive toward the end, so it gets points for that.
13. Everybody Dies
This song isn't even on 4 Your Eyez Only. Which is probably why it was the lowest charting J. Cole song this week. Well...I like the beat to this. Energetic drums and a muted synthline. Still, Cole's flow is kinda stilted until he picks up some energy at the end. And he's talking about winning beef with various rappers. And I don't believe a word he's saying. Just take the L, sir.
14. I Don't Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker)
I'm still a little weirded out that Taylor Swift is doing a song for a movie about rough sex. I'm not the only one, right? The best way I can describe this song is lukewarm. I don't like Zayn's falsetto and there's not much to the beat. Kind of boring, not necessarily awful. Give it a while though. Also disappointing that this is Taylor Swift's highest charting song since Wildest Dreams. Maybe it's time for a new album?
15. Deja Vu (J. Cole)
Really? This was the highest charting J. Cole song this week? I guess this is deja vu in the sense that we already heard Bryson Tiller use this beat on Exchange. I don't like that song. Cole uses it a little better by having more consistent energy but the lyrics feel incredibly judgmental. Not a fan. Plus that "put two fingers in the sky" cadence is stupid.
16. Ville Mentality
Well this track is kind of a dick. Or at least Cole's being one on it. The jazzy instrumentation is boring here, it just kinda drones along. Cole himself complains about fame without any real insight. The only real details are given by someone who's not J. Cole: a little girl who appears on one of the post choruses and at the end. And she doesn't seem very fazed by her father's death. I don't care either.
17. Deja Vu (Post Malone)
It's here because of Post Malone's album finally dropping. Apparently he's become a meme because of Anthony Fantano. Anyway, still stupid. A clear Hotline Bling wannabe that doesn't know what deja vu actually is. Joy. I look forward to never thinking about Post Malone again next week.
18. Congratulations
Question, Post. If you're making a song about breaking out in the big time, why would you make it gritty and dark like a Travis Scott song? That strikes me as the wrong move. It's not even a good-sounding Travis Scott song. The darkness is kinda empty. Quavo is...the best part of the song but that's mostly because he's next to Post Malone of all people. Yeah, this don't do it for me.
(By the way, 4 Your Eyez Only gets a rating of 6/10 from me)
