New and Returning Entries Ranked
1. Cool Girl
Teasing me yet again. I know it's only here because of the album, which I've heard isn't all that good. Still a great, fun song, but yeah, this is its last song on the Hot 100. Sad but true.
2. Blessed Up
Okay, this is a banger. I'm not gonna act like it's anything new, but the synths are intense, Meek Mill has a ton of energy, and the song just works for me. Was not expecting that. Then again, I don't really care about Meek Mill most of the time.
3. Love Me Now
This is clicking with me a little better this week. Not sure why, but I'll take it. Nice sweeping instrumentation, it's all good. Weird that this song originally fell out.
4. Offended
This feels more like Young Thug's song than it does Meek Mill's. The beat is lighter and fits his style more. Though I guess Meek does a good job at adapting to it. Typical Young Thug stuff. He's never been my style but I think he's growing on me. Unfortunately 21 Savage is also on the song, monotone as always. He adds nothing other than his delusions that he leaves any sort of an impression. Whatever. Other than him this isn't bad.
5. Blue Notes
This is almost tragic. The instrumentation is great. Really great. Since it's a sample of Midnight Blues by Snowy White. Haven't heard but sounds great. But Meek Mill's performance doesn't remotely fit it. He's going crazy, which is his usual MO, but yeah, it clashes with the instrumentation. Never shout over soft bluegrass. Maybe I should just check out the original song...
6. Chantaje
I don't really know what to feel about this song. I was kinda enjoying it at first, but then I found out that "chantaje" translates to..."blackmail." And then it got uncomfortable. Weird autotune and backing vocal choices paint this in an uncomfortable light even though I can't understand the lyrics. Percussion is catchy though.
7. Litty
Okay, I hear Mark of SpectrumPulse complain about "pitch-shifted vocals" often. And I never understood what he was referring to in any of these instances. But here, I think I can hear it. I know Tory Lanez doesn't sound like this. His voice is usually higher. Other than that, typical Meek Mill trap stuff. Not bad, but kinda exhausting at this point.
8. Better Man
This doesn't make me think country. This reminds me more of some corny, generic 80s pop ballad. Well, they did warn me Little Big Town's latest album was more pop than country. Nothing really has any emotional weight or connection. It's all fluff. I wish you were a better band...
9. Star Of The Show
I can't muster much hate for this. It's not good, mostly because Thomas Rhett doesn't sound flattering. But I've heard Southside, Vacation, and It Goes Like This. And this is far from the worst he has to offer. At least he's trying to be authentically country here. Though it's more adult alternative than anything.
10. Two Birds, One Stone
Drake's bars may have had more impact if the beat wasn't so awful. It's tuneless, aimless, and the synth tones are so blurry and exhausting. Not to mention that dead percussion. It sounds like it was recorded with an iPhone. Meanwhile Drake gets confessional. His lyrics probably bumped this song higher on the ranking, but this is still not good.
11. On The Regular
Who thought it was a good idea to combine trap bass and percussion with O Fortuna? Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Meek Mill's energy just gets tiring, especially since he's rapping over something that was written to have dynamic and swell. It doesn't fill.
12. The Difference
This song is cluttered. The most prominent thing about it is those vocal calls from Panda, this time on steroids. Desiigner is even in the video, even though he's not on the song itself and Panda isn't credited as a sample. It's intense and all, but not clicking with me. I'm mostly just annoyed at how loud and messy everything is.
13. Froze
Screw Lil Uzi Vert. I hate him so much. His chorus is so bad. Autotune slurry. Really everyone is autotuned here. Beat is bassy and irritating. Nicki's verse is probably the best part of the song, but even then, she's done better. Also I forgot her and Meek Mill were a thing. Apparently still are too. Everything is annoying...
