New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Greenlight

Yes please. Funky and infectious. The best. Please let this be a hit for 2017.

2. Kill A Word

This is a surprisingly touching and beautiful song for being about killing. Well, it's about words but still. Apparently this was chosen as a single because of the election, and, well, I believe it. Its words ring true to America's situation right now. Be good to people. We need it now more than ever.

3. Setting Fires

I saw this coming. The Chainsmokers are still blowing up. A lot of people seem to have turned on these guys, but I'm still enjoying what they're making. In short, I liked their Collage EP. And this is probably the best song they've come out with since Don't Let Me Down, thanks to the way the production builds and explodes with that synth drop. Paige Duddy of XYLØ is also a great vocal presence, even if the lyrics are kinda nonsense. Ah well.

4. Hold Up

Thought this was gone for good. But when an album bomb clears out, I guess anything's possible. This is still pretty good. Even if it's one of the weaker songs on Lemonade. It'll do, though.

5. Bounce Back

Did you know that 4 people produced this? Just thought that was worth mentioning. One of those people is Metro Boomin, which explains why it's low and boring. I guess Sean does manage to make it work during the back halves of his verses. His flows are pretty good there. Still, not really a fan of the hook or the production in general. Hope you've got more than just Metro Boomin beats planned for when you bounce back, Sean.

6. Look Alive

Sigh. Guess we couldn't get a new Number 1 without some repercussions. This wasn't the worst song on SremmLife 2, but there's still little to this. Swae Lee and Jxmmy sound checked out. The beat is kinda limp and cluttered. Not much to recommend here.

7. PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen)

I didn't relisten to this. There's no point. This meme should be dead by now.

8. Selfish

Okay, let me be clear. Just because a song is about being an awful human doesn't mean it's bad by default. But PnB Rock does pretty much nothing with the "selfish" concept. Trap production isn't interesting here. PnB Rock himself isn't a very good vocalist. If you want this kind of song done better from this year alone, look up Genghis Khan by Miike Snow or Greedy by Ariana Grande. Both are much more creative and interesting.

9. Used To This

Well.......it's better than Grammy's. I think the piano is trying to be lighthearted and fun, but the melody feels so messy and rushed. It also sounds very thing. Future spends the majority of the song in his upper range, which has always been where his voice is at his worst. Drake exists. I don't care. I don't like this.

10. Gangsta

Well, this still makes my skin crawl. And not in a good way. It's not really enjoyable, with random production elements and Kehlani's crooning being all sorts of questionable.

11. Bad Things

I was looking forward to never hearing this song again. The production is skin-crawlingly repulsive and Camila Cabello's vocals are really bad. Machine Gun Kelly also exists. I'm not sure he fits on a song like this.
