New and Returning Entries Ranked
1. Middle of a Memory
Cole Swindell hooks up with a girl at a club. She leaves early. He's left heartbroken. And surprisingly, this actually works. The instrumentation's somber and effective, Cole doesn't sound like he's in the wrong. So yeah, You Should Be Here wasn't a fluke.
2. This Girl
This actually reminds me a lot of Robin Schulz. That's a good thing. It's got a nice groove, the singer sounds fantastic. I just wish the instrumentation was a bit more forceful, especially during the drop. The drop in particular feels pretty basic. But that's nitpicking, this song is great.
3. Cold Water
So it's clear we're gonna be hearing this song a lot throughout the rest of the year. And I'm okay with that. It's decent tropical dancehall stuff, and definitely a breath of fresh air considering a lot of the rest of this week. Bieber actually sounds great. MØ on the other hand kinda clashes with the beat, but that's really my only problem. I'll take this, no problem. Kinda hope it dethrones Cheap Thrills at the top in fact.
4. It Don't Hurt Like It Used To
It's a breakup song. But it sounds sincere enough to avoid sounding insufferable. Pretty good instrumentation too. Standard stuff, but this is the kind of country music I don't really mind, so I'll take it.
5. Castaway
Definitely an improvement over Beautiful Drug. It's kinda just a beach song, and ZBB have done this before like with Knee Deep, but it's fun and relaxing. So I'll take it.
6. Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1
This song's constant returns are getting annoying.
7. Purple Lamborghini
Well...the Suicide Squad soundtrack is still 2 for 3 as far as I'm concerned. Apparently not getting good reviews. Ah well. This is okay, I guess. A little too overwhelming, but it does at least sound dangerous. And I guess Skrillex and Rick Ross make sense on a song together. But man I wish this was better.
8. No Money
Still not feeling this. It's too forceful and I don't like the child vocals. Not much else to say.
9. 1 Night
The guy who did guest verses on Broccoli makes his own song. And wow, Lil Yachty sounds half asleep. The beat's nothing to write home about with the trap production and faded synths. It's lyrically unimpressive. It's only really worth listening to for the beyond-obscene music video.
10. Tiimmy Turner
If Desiigner wasn't trying to be Future before, he's certainly trying now. This is just a monotonous mush of artless darkness. And way too much autotune. Also, it tries to make Fairly Odd Parents violent. That is pretty stupid.
11. Back On Road
I literally have nothing to say about this. I may have zoned out while listening to it, and I don't care.
12. P***y Print
Garrrrrrrbage. Generic bragging about pockets bulging from all the money he has and another lifeless Mike WiLL Made-It beat. And does anyone even remember this guy? I know his album debuted at Number 2 on the Billboard 200, but still, why?
13. Hit or Miss
I literally didn't expect this kid to appear on the Hot 100 again after Sweatshirt. Dammit. You heard life gets harder when you're older? You're set for life, Jacob, don't kid yourself. You're also a bad rapper. Also the beat's atrocious.
