New and Returning Entries Ranked
1. Do You Mind
So I guess Chris Brown's career isn't dead just yet. Damn. Still, this is some pretty smooth and enjoyable R&B. It tends to get a little monotonous in the long period between Nicki's verse and Future/Rick Ross' verse though. Future also sounds surprisingly good over this more down tempo production. Overall, not quite as good as Holy Key, but makes me think Major Key might be worth a listen after all.
2. You Don't Own Me
Back because of Suicide Squad. Glad to see it back. Likely won't get much swell, but I'll enjoy it while it's here.
3. Let Me Love You
This song seems to be biting hard off Lean On's sound. I always thought that was more Major Lazer's doing than DJ Snake's. Regardless, this actually works for me. It's energetic, Bieber sounds pretty good. It's got a nice flavor. I think I might like this more than Cold Water in all honesty.
4. Cool Girl
Tove does not disappoint. Smooth, bassy synths. The vocals sound nice, though I don't really like the way they're compressed at the ending. Still, it's catchy and fun. Wouldn't mind this getting bigger.
5. You Look Like I Need A Drink
Hey this guy isn't bad for a country man person. Good instrumentation and Justin's voice is decently twangy. And it's kinda about drinking. So typical country stuff, but it's enjoyable.
6. Bohemian Rhapsody
Brendan gave it an honest shot. This can't be an easy song to cover. And for what it's worth, the instruments are always on point and I appreciate the added emphasis on guitar over the original. Still, Brendan's voice doesn't feel that well suited to this song. Not a terrible cover, but overall, I think Suicide Squad would've been better off using the original.
7. Gangsta
Well this is weird. Kehlani herself seems talented from what I can hear but the production goes for this mix of smooth R&B and dark trap. It's not a great fit. It thinks it's sexier and more dangerous than it actually is. Definitely my least favorite of the original Suicide Squad songs I've heard.
