General Notes

Looks like we got several small stories this week. We got the return of the charting singles from the new Panic! At The Disco album. Still like both, but the album itself is kinda eh. Still, among the best the album offers. Sin Pijama also came back, which is am okay with. Hopefully it can actually do better this time around, but I kinda doubt it. Big Bank also came back huge thanks to the video. Which I haven't seen so maybe it went viral? The song gets less interesting the more I think about it.

In country news, Take Back Home Girl is back again. Please stop doing that. But we also got Life Changes from Thomas Rhett, the title track from his latest album. I didn't remember it being the most memorable track when I listened through it, and that's still kinda true. Not a bad song, but kinda doofy. It sounds good. Which I can't say for Coming Home, a song I was actively dreading charting and that had lots of bad buzz. Badly produced, shoddily put together, and it further tries to legitimize Julia Michaels as someone I should care about in music. I don't. I still hate her. At least she's not on the song that much.

In terms of weird stuff, we got the second single from Ariana's forthcoming album. This one with more of a trap influence, and one I actually enjoy more than No Tears Left To Cry. She pulls off ratchet surprisingly well and Pharrell's beat is fun and wicked. Nicki's verse is okay. Then there's another song from Juice WRLD, this time as a tribute to X and Lil Peep. Admirable, I guess, but god it's annoying. The Post Malone comparisons are getting easier to make here, and it's still clear he does them worse than he does. Not a fan whatsoever.

And finally, we got a couple tracks from Demi Lovato, both drastically different. My favorite of the two is her collab with Clean Bandit, mostly for how it's able to balance its wonky elements into something catchy. "I wanna FWOOP FWOOP FWOOP" is one of my favorite lines of the year, I'm not kidding. Just a lot of fun. In contrast, Sober is a dour, emotional piano ballad. And I can appreciate the vulnerability on display in this song and the rawness Demi's displaying, but something's not really clicking with me all that well. I don't hate it by any means, but it doesn't hit me as hard as I would like it to. Maybe it's something to do with the piano arrangement. Eh. It might grow on me if it sticks around.

Best: Solo
Honorable Mention: The Light Is Coming

Worst: Coming Home
Dishonorable Mention: Legends
