New Entries Ranked

1. Don't Go Breaking My Heart

It's still weird to me that Backstreet Boys are putting out music in the late 10s. Their last year end hit was back in 2005. But hey, if they're gonna make a fun disco song, that's awesome. It's a bit formulaic, but it hits all the right notes and the members sound good. I can vibe to this.

2. Welcome To The Party

Yep, this is the kind of thing I expect from a Deadpool song. I still need to see Deadpool 1, jeez. Anyway, Diplo's beat is loud and bombastic and awesome. French Montana rides it well, even if his lyrics kinda fade into the background. I like Zhavia's backing vocals a lot. Even Lil Pump kinda holds his own here. Even if I think his verse is still really stupid as he talks about slinging drugs with his grandma. Bringing up elderly relatives does not improve your street cred, I'm sorry.

3. Fake Love

Better than the Drake song. Though it's a little awkward to hear the word "fake" being pronounced as 2 syllables. I know English isn't the native language of these guys but, er, still awkward, sorry. But other than that I don't mind this. It's got more polish and flare than DNA. It sounds fine, I guess. And oddly enough, it does sound like a song that's destined to be huge. So I kinda want this to stick around. Add a little variety to the charts. Or something.

4. Let It Sing

I'm not sure if I really like this song or not. On one hand, the beat's not bad with its bassy atmosphere, but it's a bit generic. And the chorus ain't bad either, with Gates showing some grit that few rappers in his lane really can. Though the verses feel off, since I don't think the beat really matches his flow that well. It takes too many instruments to fit his somewhat loose flow. But eh. I've heard worse from this guy.

5. Like That

This guy has no personality. Which is probably why he's reverbed to hell and back. And with boring, spacey production, I struggle to find what's supposed to be charming or memorable about this. It reeks of fluke YouTube crossover novelty. Even though this guy is an established artist and actor in China. Somehow.

6. Champion

Your typical bombastic Travis Scott song that doesn't really do much to excite. Bleh. Wait it's actually a NAV song. I swear the guy's on less than a third of this song. Or maybe that's because I keep tuning him out until Scott gets back on. Mostly though, it's frustrating that the only parts of this song I can remember are talking about not needing TSA for a private jet or something, and name checking Mask Off for some reason. At least you did it better than Jake Paul. I can see some slight appeal to this, but nah. Pass. Honestly I'm surprised NAV got anything to chart from his new album.

7. Downtown's Dead

You know what, I'll give Body Like A Back Road this: for Sam Hunt, it sounded different. Now he's back to the same sludgy production that's barely country and not really enjoyable. It's honestly pretty bitter. Especially with that guitar melody that doesn't sound properly mixed. Thankfully this is flopping, proving we've all had enough Sam Hunt after BLABR.

8. Life Goes On

Barebones beat that tries to be imposing but ultimately feels too thin. Especially with Lil Baby prominently saying the word "tippie toes" on the chorus. You're not /supposed/ to be corny, right? Gunna doesn't really stand out. Mostly just reminds me of Ty Dolla $ign. And then Lil Uzi's verse is just grating. His autotune here is more egregious than usual. Just when I was starting to enjoy some of his features too... Drake, what hath you wrought?

9. Change Lanes

This I don't get the appeal to. It's Kevin Gates trying to be vulnerable for once, talking about being introverted, I guess. But with a hook that feels incredibly breathy and not well thought out. Production is also utterly forgettable. Overall a mess.

10. Southside

The production here is the absolute bare minimum. Sloppy subbass, trap percussion. I need more than that to get turnt. I guess Baby's flow here can be impressive for like, a split second. But it's also so boring I kinda zoned out both times I listened to this. It's just a nothing of a song. At least Life Goes On had a central melody.

11. Sangria Wine

Usually, I can dig me some dancehall. But this is just horrific. Unnecessary tension, messy as hell production, and filling up many of Camila's lines with an echo effect that doesn't flatter her or the song at all. Also isn't Sangria already made of wine? That's like making a song called Mimosa Orange. I'm just baffled at how bad this sounds, considering Havana sounded so great. Probably the worst thing to chart in some time.
