New and Returning Entries

1. Finesse (Remix)

I didn't remember this song too well the couple of times I listened to 24K Magic. But if anything's gonna make me remember this song, it's this. Was only a matter of time before Bruno took on New Jack Swing, and it is glorious. And probably the best way he could've worked with Cardi B too, who wears this style way better than I would've expected. But yeah, this is a delight. It's appropriately cheesy but awesome, and the same goes for the music video. My only complaint is that it doesn't give Cardi more screentime. It feels like she should've gotten another full verse rather than one verse at the beginning and some scattered vocals toward the end. But that's nitpicking. Fantastic song. And it's coming for the Top 10 next week for sure.

2. One Foot

I have been waiting for this to chart for some time now. Seriously, it was number 1 on the Bubbling Under for three weeks. And it's about time this band got more time in the spotlight. It's not as good as Shut Up And Dance, but it's still fun and energetic, which is what I want from this band. The electronics keep it lively, especially that little riff that plays during the chorus. I can see that being annoying for some people, but for me it's a delight. And all around, it's just hopeful and great. Crossing my fingers it becomes a hit and these guys can break out of one hit wonder status.

3. Broken Halos

Still no video huh? You would think with all the times it's regained popularity that Chris would wanna capitalize on that. Especially now that this is probably its last shot at become a real hit, what with the post-holiday country push. Make it happen. Probably wouldn't be a big crossover hit, but I'd love to see this do well on country radio at least.

4. All On Me

Last chance to be a hit on the country charts. Wouldn't mind if it pulled it off. Good luck, Devin.

5. Best Friend

I had heard this song frequently in commercials, so I figured it would be a matter of time before it charted. I do like this; it's got a catchy horn line and bass groove. But man those lyrics are weird. "We made a language for us two." That seems like a lot of work to do for your friend. But clearly this isn't meant to make much sense. It's a club dance song. Bleh. All those guest artists too. That's...that's giving Hailee Steinfeld a run for her money.

6. Wanted You

I like this song more than I should. It's bouncy and fun, even if it's dickish. Just, Uzi's so good on this song. And you know how hard that is for me to say.

7. Corazon

"Heart". This very much sounds like your typical Latin love song. Nothing wrong with that, of course, and I do enjoy listening to this. But it doesn't offer me much that's new. But who knows? Maybe this'll be the full crossover smash Maluma's been hoping to have since Chantaje and Felices Los 4.

8. Rewrite The Stars

Clearly Zac Efron's gotten a little more bass in his voice since High School Musical. And that's a good thing. And in contrast with some of the other Greatest Showman songs, this isn't that bad. It's kinda generic for a stage love duet, but Efron and Zendaya sound good together and the production isn't overbearing. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's fine enough. I'll take it.

9. Heaven

Well, better this came back than Found You. It's the least stupid of his songs that I've heard, but I'm still not impressed.

10. This Is Me

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the Signature Song of The Greatest Showman. Certainly has that feel to it. From Keala's emotional performance signaling this probably plays toward the end of the film, along with some of the thumping drumwork that actually isn't that bad. It's generic but tolerable. I guess.

11. When We

Still boring, but I've heard worse.

12. Never Enough

Blaaaaaaand. I feel like I shouldn't be able to say that when Loren Allred's belting is at times technically impressive, but it's a generic inspirational ballad that I guess is supposed to play at some climactic moment of The Greatest Showman. And speaking of that belting, see it may be impressive but it's also just piercing and annoying. And all around this is just boring.

13. Never Be The Same

I kinda thought this would've gotten worse since the last time I heard it. Maybe not. I still don't like it since Camila's just annoying as hell on this. But I feel more bored when I listen to this.

14. The Greatest Show

O-oh. I...I don't like this. The entire thing is so cluttered and messy and overly-bombastic that it's hard to follow. The chorus, for instance, really has nothing to do with the chanting that opens up the song. Hugh Jackman comes in and he's incredibly hard to hear, in contrast with how loud the rest of the song is. Also the writing is generic. Possibly to fit in with whatever the plot of the movie is. Something about a show. I have no use for this.

15. Female

I was hoping this song would say off the Hot 100 but alas. This is the definition of fake deep. Claiming to stand up for women without actually doing anything except rattling off a word salad of synonyms for female with no connection. Keith, you're not fooling anyone. Stop.
