New Entries Ranked

1. Havana

Well, color me surprised. Camila actually has a good amount of control on this song. The beat's exotic and layered with some chilling undertones. But it never comes off as overly dramatic. Solid tune. Wasn't expecting this. Young Thug is kind of a weak link though. He's not as energetic as I feel he works best in. Though I wouldn't call his verse terrible, I guess.

2. Patty Cake

AAAAAAAAA. God damn, Kodak, why do you keep making songs with beats I really like? Seriously, this instrumental is infectious and awesome. It's upbeat and catchy, even despite the trap elements clashing a little. Kodak's bars are still wack, though. References to ragu, Caillou, and saying he's "flyer than a plane". Talk about basic. But...this beat is really good. Better than Tunnel Vision's even, which I feel alone in liking.

3. Chillin' Like A Villain

Guitar and bass grooves this good should not be wasted on a song like this. The autotune is irritating and the writing is incredibly lame. It's a kid's movie, yeah, but wow this is stiff. And yet, it's the best of the Descendants 2 songs I've heard. But it's been three weeks, why is this movie still impacting the Hot 100?

4. What About Us

This is basically The Cure but with even less to care about. The production feels like The Cure anyway. It and Pink's performance are technically good but the lyrics are vague and meaningless. Could apply to almost any situation but there's no connection. It's a song that desperately wants to be bigger than it is.

5. OMG

This isn't a good fit for Camila. Quavo-inspired trap with some spacey synths. Yeah, she isn't remotely convincing in this lane. Performance-wise, she's tolerable though. Though at one point I thought she was saying "Hola hola hola". And then Quavo happens.

6. The Race

SOUNDCLOUD RAP NEEDS TO DIE. Cheap beat that sounds worse than some things I've heard people make on GarageBand. Tay-K himself is enunciating way too much for what he's going for. He sounds like he's trying to be XXXTENTACION but he isn't threatening like X is. At least it's short.

7. Perplexing Pegasus

Iiiiiiit's boring. I think it's supposed to be a vibe rap song but it does nothing for me. Especially with that cheap sounding snare and Swae Lee stringing together non-sequiters like there's no tomorrow. Slim Jxmmy isn't worth talking about either, same old stuff. The only thing perplexing about this song is the title, really.

8. B.E.D.

Gross. Slow jam trap R&B with no subtlety or shame. I'm not sure if B.E.D. is supposed to stand for anything in this case. For all I know it's said like that to fit the ryme scheme. The "I know you wanna love but I just wanna f**k" line on the chorus also makes my stomach churn. Jacquees also feels the need to imitate Quavo and Young Thug to stand out.So yeah.

  1. Get ready for JB's newest hit Friends, because it is now #1 on iTunes. Could this be the song to dethrone Despacito at #1?
