New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Whatever You Need

I liked this more than I thought I would. That instrumental is absolutely amazing. It's an intriguing melody and it's almost whimsical in its presentation, even with the trap elements it's paired with. Chris Brown and Ty Dolla $ign also sound great here in their chorus and bridge respectively. The one element of this that doesn't work though is Meek himself. His aggressive tones don't work for this instrumental. Which is a problem I had with the DC4 songs that charted last year. Eh. Still great.

2. Somebody Else Will

The concept of the song is that Justin Moore is trying to pick up a girl because if he doesn't, somebody else will. And that comes off as a bit douchey for my tastes. Though the song is saved by some great sounding guitars and drums. So yeah, it's okay. You Look Like I Need A Drink is better though.

3. Know No Better

I feel like this should be better than it is. It's okay, though the latin percussion pattern makes it feel stiff. Also Travis Scott's verses are complete nonsense. But after a while it does start to pick up and the melodies become enjoyable. Especially the drop. Even Camila Cabello sounds good here. At least as good as she can. Quavo's autotune is too overbearing though. Could see it growing on me.

4. To The Max

I almost like this instrumental. Unfortunately the production isn't too great, throwing in so many weird sound effects and vocal samples that take precedent over even Drake himself. Drake's not even in the last third of the song. Could grow on me, but right now it's kinda annoying.

5. Nobody Else But You

So Trey Songz is...still around. I never found this guy interesting and this song is no different. The melody's pretty flat and Trey's performance can get pretty monotone at times. Though I don't really have a problem with the lyrics. Kinda admirable to show your devotion.

6. Down

Even without Camila, Fifth Harmony seem to still have problems. I'm fine with them making tropical house, but the production quality is paper thin. Though I guess the members of Fifth Harmony give decent performances. But then it's all bass for most of Gucci's verse and it sounds like a completely different song/horrible. Also Gucci Mane remains the least interesting rapper in the game.

7. 4 AM

A sloppy beat and unenthusiastic delivery made up for by some decent writing. Yeah, didn't think I'd say that about 2 Chainz. There's some introspection in there about his come-up and...okay other than that it's mostly his same old. Ehhhh? I feel like I should hate this more than I should. I don't mind Travis Scott in this though.

8. Subeme La Radio

Pass. I've listened to it twice already and don't think I'll get anything out of a third listen.

9. Small Town Boy

Middling. It's a midtempo country ballad about a girl and there's obvious autotune. And the melody reminds me of Think A Little Less, which is a song I don't like. Moving on.

10. It's Everyday Bro

The song that the internet absolutely went nuts over for being the worst thing ever. And yeah, it's annoying and obnoxious with its YouTube drama and shots at PewDiePie and RiceGum, but...I don't care. I've heard worse and I'll forget about this when the hype wears off.
