New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Feel It Still

This isn't something you usually see on the Hot 100. Light blues rock. Maybe a bit of surf rock influences. That bass lick is so friggin catchy, and John Baldwin Gourley's falsetto actually sounds pretty good alongside it. Even if I don't really believe that "rebel just for kicks" line. I am totally down with this being a crossover hit.

2. My Old Man

No idea why it's back but I won't fight it. <3

3. Feels

Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1 releases this Friday and I am excited. Especially with songs like this. That funk bass and guitars pair greatly with Pharrell's verses and even Katy's chorus. And Big Sean's verse toward the end is the icing on the cake. I'm glad this got a music video, but Calvin...please make one for Slide too, I really want that to be a hit.

4. Wild Thoughts

Possibly the best single from that new DJ Khaled album. It wears its Latin influences on its sleeve with those Spanish guitars. The electric guitar sounds pretty good too. And of course, Rihanna steals the show. Almost like her performance on Work, but with more complete instrumentation. And even Bryson Tiller sounds alright here. That is a miracle.

5. Relationship

Lorde didn't chart this week but Young Thug did. That doesn't feel right. But to be fair, the Young Thug song we got is actually pretty good. It's rooted in this energetic piano beat, and even Future sounds okay here. It's romantic and humorous, even if it gets gross at times. This is the Young Thug I am alright with.

6. First Day Out

Congrats, Kodak. You're out of jail. After like, a month in there. That feels incredibly short considering what you were arrested for. Whatever. I don't feel much listening to this. Like, it's throwing around money and stuff. Same as usual. Beat's decent though. Gives me a 2 Phones vibe kinda. Tee Grizzley better.

7. Real Hitta

I thought this was the clean version of the title but nope, the n-word isn't in the actual title. And surprise surprise, it's not good. Underdeveloped beat, Kodak sounds absolutely terrible, even worse than usual actually. Plies is annoying. Also it feels more like Kodak's song than Plies'.

  1. One more week until Look At Me! is no more :D Hopefully it'll miss the Year-End!

And sadly nothing from Melodrama charted. =(
