One month left in Billboard's year. Even though right now it's still set to October. Weird. Oh, also Bruno Mars finally returns. Which is awesome. And that dance rap song got an enormous boost up the charts. Because we can't have nice things without also having bad things. Sigh. HIGHLIGHTS TIME!

New Entries Ranked

1. 24K Magic

Bruno's back, and I'd like to take responsibility for that fact. Bruno tries to recreate what made Uptown Funk so large and memorable, and he succeeds. A funky flexing anthem with tons of style and charisma. This is destined to be a huge smash. Not sure it'll make this year's Year End list, but I think it's a lock for 2017. Woo!

2. Kids

This song is so upbeat and catchy. I dig it. The synths and even the autotune make this infectious. It's a song about nostalgia but also about right now, so it's able to strike an appropriate balance of themes. Plus it just sounds fantastic. Maybe I should listen to the album, despite all the hatred it's gotten.

3. Today

"The memory of a day like today can get you through the rest of your life." Makes sense to me, really. Good sentiment. Good, somber country instrumentation. Not exactly making me cry, but I can appreciate the sentiment, definitely. I'll take it.

4. Ain't My Fault

I had heard horror stories about this song long before I ever heard it myself. Well, here we go. It's pretty catchy, though I'm not a fan of the trap elements on the verses. Zara's also playing a little too aggressively in pining for this boy, but I don't really see what's supposed to be so bad about the lyrics other than that. It's decent. But why couldn't we keep Lush Life instead?

5. Million Reasons

Sonically pleasing, but not very interesting. It's a stripped down ballad, which doesn't really play to Lady Gaga's strengths that well. Other than on Til It Happens To You. But again, it sounds fine. Still, I have issues with the lyrics. You have a million reasons to leave and need one good one to stay? Sounds like you should probably be leaving. Why do you like this guy? Bleh.

6. Love Me Now

This song seems to be operating on the same sort of lyrical sentiment as Style by Taylor Swift. Wanting to live in the now despite the relationship not being right. And the exotic production is pretty catchy. So why don't I like this more? I have no idea. It's just not grabbing me and I don't get why. Is it because of Legend himself? I'm confused.

7. All Time Low

Ho boy. The big one. The ultimate divisive song. Love it or hate it. I'm...somewhere in the middle. I can appreciate the lyrics on some level. Feeling low from a breakup. Even if it does sound happy. But the production is so weird. It's messy, elements keep switching ears. It's a strange listen. I guess it's kinda catchy, but other than that, not feeling it right now. Not bad though.

8. Don't Wanna Know

Adam Levine is very clearly biting off tropical house trends of 2016 with this. This is what I imagine Cheap Thrills sounds to people who hate that song. Still, I find it hard to care about this. It's not interesting nor does it really have any reason to exist. Kendrick drops a meh verse, but not awful. That just describes the entire song, though.

9. PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen)

This should not have been eligible to chart. It is not a song, it is a meme. Nothing more. It is less of a song than Harlem Shake. And it's not funny. It mistakes random for funny, and it sounds like ass. And it's less than a minute long. I hate people...
