New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Slide

Surprisingly, Calvin Harris going for organic tropical music brings out the best in Migos. Wouldn't have thought that. Though why does Takeoff get the shaft again? This is catchy and fun, and it fits Migos a lot better than the trap production they typically use. Plus Frank Ocean's parts are the icing on the cake. Great stuff. A lot better than I expected. Hope this gets big.

2. Green Light

Number 100 might not seem high, but keep in mind, this is off one day's sales, streaming, and YouTube. Expect it to get much higher next week. And I'm looking forward to that. Lorde returns with a catchy, piano-driven pop track, and it is fabulous. Good luck moving forward.

3. Redbone

Man this thing has longevity. I thought it was gone for good. Keep at it.

4. How Far I'll Go

Moana's on home media starting today, didn't know that. Glad it brought back the superior version of this song. Though I don't see it or the Alessia Cara version sticking around for much longer.

5. Comin Out Strong

Funny how working with The Weeknd makes up for a lot of Future's shortcomings. It's dark and catchy, and The Weeknd absolutely steals the show. Future on the other hand noticeably strains his voice when he tries to imitate Abel. Not pleasant. This probably would've been better if it was just The Weeknd, but as it is, it's decent. Could've done without the random cutting out in the outro though.

6. Hometown Girl

Apparently this guy's been making music for over a decade. And yeah, I'd call him good. The instrumentation swells nicely, and I guess the lyrics are okay. I never know what to say about country music. This is okay.

7. God, Your Mama, And Me

I don't know how to feel about this. On one hand, we're clearly throwing any pretense of this being country by collabing with Backstreet Boys. On the other, the lyrics are actually pretty sweet. Not particularly deep, but it has a good heart and sentiment. But again, it's really not country. Noticeable autotune is noticeable. Overall, guess it's okay.

8. Stay

Whoops, Zedd, you kinda screwed up. The verses sound nice and Alessia Cara has a great performance. But then for the drop you crank up the distortion and autotune up to 11? Way to squander a perfectly good song. And man is that frustrating.

9. Selfish

I can't say I knew what to expect from a Rihanna/Future collab. And this is...weird, to say the least. At the very least, I kinda expected there to be more melody to match Rihanna rather than the barely-there synths and occasional snaps. I think this is trying to be sensual, but it's more just awkward. Not a fan, but it's still a lot better than nearly any of the songs I heard from Future's self-titled.

10. Make Love

Ain't It Fun used a xylophone much better. Also shouldn't a song with this name sound much sexier? Seems like a huge disconnect. Especially with how gratingly distorted the beat is at the beginning and end. Nicki's verse is better than Gucci's at least. Except for the part where she acknowledges that she chose to laugh instead of rapping for a little bit. Stop laughing at your punchlines!

11. Losin Control

This song makes my skin crawl. At least in the instrumentation. All this song's energy is in the drums. The synths are groanworthy, I don't like Russ' tones. Yeah, not a fan. Plus the lyrics are some third person observation of some relationship drama, and I couldn't really bring myself to care. Wasn't really missing this guy.
