New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Rollin

This is the only Calvin Harris return/debut this week? What a disappointment. Would've also loved to see Cash Out chart at least. Anyway, this song has grown on me tremendously since it first debuted. I've listened to it a lot since then. Khalid's performance feels better and better, as does the beat. Also Future's performance is starting to sound better, so that's a plus. Though I still think the song would've been better without him.

2. Heartache On The Dance Floor

This has been in the Bubbling Under for a while now. And I like Jon Pardi, so I'm glad to see this finally chart. In terms of image, it seems somewhere inbetween Head Over Boots and Dirt On My Boots. So it seems like a more comfortable lane for Pardi. Pleasant melodies with some grit, great performance from Pardi. I dig this. And I started listening to country radio recently so I might hear this more often.

3. Who Dat Boy

It is weird to see Tyler, The Creator charting. Then again, I've never listened to his music before. And this is quite the first impression. Tense and spooky, with the bass bubbling. This is unsettling, with Tyler switching from a cleaner flow and one with more grit in his voice. I dig it. And the music video is also appropriately creepy, with someone having someone else's face attached to their own after an accident. I'm guessing this charted because the video went viral? It probably won't stick. Dunno why it switches to light R&B at the end though.

4. Extr Luv

I know everyone makes comments about not being able to understand Future, but in this case it's because I think the beat is mixed higher than he is. That's a mistake. Though the beat is honestly not that bad. Bassy and got some decent synths. Future's not compelling, though things start to pick up when YG raps. He's got way more charisma. Though it kinda feels like a nothing of a song overall. Still, WAY better than Pie with Chris Brown, which I am eternally grateful did not chart.

5. El Amante

Ignoring.

6. Mi Gente

"My People." I didn't want this to be the worst Latin song to debut this week, but good god I hate that vocal sample. A lot. The beat is otherwise fine, but that snippet that repeats throughout the entire song grates on my nerves. Please make it stop. And the thing is, I like the other elements of the song. The performances, the other instruments, I like them all. And that kinda makes me angry that this isn't better.

7. Rake It Up

This beat is atrocious. All percussion and subbass. Mike Will, you kinda need treble to make a rap beat. You should know this. Yo Gotti is also not helping things with how obnoxious he is, but oddly enough he has him moments? I don't know. Nicki's not much better. She starts her verse rhyming "China" with itself several times. I'm guessing some of those are supposed to be a reference to Black Chyna, but still. Not good.

8. Bodak Yellow

This is annoying. God. Turns out that imitating Kodak Black is still annoying, even if your voice isn't as nasally as his. Also Cardi B brags about how she's big in the game. Even though I've never heard of her before. Rappers tend to do that a lot. And the beat is a dull, repetitive 3 note lick. I don't like this.
