Top Ten Best Hit Songs of 2012
If I had to compare the music of 2012 with the music of 2015, it would be as such: the good stuff of 2015 was better than the good stuff of 2012, but 2012 had more good stuff. Only by a little bit, though. As a trade-off, though, 2015's low points were a lot worse than 2012's low points. With all this in mind, if I were to pick a superior year, it would honestly go to 2015. 2015's high points were so high that I had to expand my best list to 15 just to fit all the songs I wanted to talk about. In 2012's case, even though there were more songs on the year end list I liked, they're ultimately songs I didn't like as much. Not in all cases, but still, I don't think I'd be able to expand this past the usual 10. And I'll admit, some of that might have to do with the fact that I was paying attention more in 2015, and I developed more of an attachment to the good stuff than I'm really able to develop for songs in 2012 I'm only vaguely familiar with. Of course that's not true for every song on this list. Besides, 2012 was still great for music, and hell if I'm gonna let my biases influence my picks. Let's get to it.
As per usual, my picks are limited to anything that debuted on Billboard's Year End 100 in 2012. Holdovers from 2011 like Adele's Rolling In The Deep or Someone Like You are disqualified.

Billboard Hot 100 Highlights February 6th 2016
So long Meghan Meghans, your being on the Top 10 is FOREVER DONE! Oh also Justin Bieber surpassed Adele again, and we got that one Chainsmokers song you guys seem to like that I'm pretty indifferent about. Sure.

Top Ten Worst Hit Songs of 2012
From what I've heard on the internet, 2012 is considered one of the best years for music in recent memory. A lot of songs seemed to come out of nowhere and defied logical explanation as to why they were so huge. Well actually I imagine Glee was part of the reason. And YouTube virality. And looking through the year end list, it's hard to complain, what with the indie rock and country being a lot better than in succeeding years. Okay, there are a few things to complain about, but not a lot. Seriously, this year was so good, if I were to make this a Top 20 list, I wouldn't be able to fill it because I don't even hate that many songs from the year. I don't know what's gonna be harder at this point, choosing ten out of eighteen songs as the worst of 2012, or narrowing down a list of 60 songs I did like to a smaller 10. There were more songs from 2012 I thought were either mediocre or okay than I outright hated. But, no year is without blemish. Let's get the bad stuff out of the way already.
As with my other lists, I'm only including songs that debuted on the Year End 100 in 2012. No holdovers from 2011 are allowed. Let's dig in.

Billboard Hot 100 Highlights January 30th, 2016
I was about to cuss Billboard out for late charts again, but they delayed it because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day apparently. Fair enough, I guess. Also glad to see that even in death, Bowie can score a Top 40 hit.

Billboard Hot 100 Highlights January 23, 2016
Justin Bieber overtook Adele. Ah well. Hello had a good run. It'll probably be number 1 on the year end list anyway. Also not gonna do that Top 20 ranking anymore. Maybe just once in a while when it really matters. Okay, here are the highlights.

Billboard Hot 100 Highlights January 16th 2015
Guys a single from one of the best albums of 2015 is finally a Top 10 hit and I couldn't be happier. This shouldn't have happened but it did. I don't even care that there are better songs off Blurryface it's still great. Also all the Christmas music is gone. Awesome. Now, onto the highlights.
