New and Returning Entries Ranked

1. Something Just Like This

The Chainsmokers finally collaborate with a male vocalist. And yep, I dig it. Chris Martin works against this dreamy production and the superhero references are endearing. The drop's pretty similar to "Roses", but improved because it doesn't kill the momentum in the moments leading up to the drop. Also because it feels more fleshed out. Yep, I'm on board. Looking forward to the album. Unless it's just their two EPs with a couple new tracks...

2. Tunnel Vision

I feel like the lyrics about the troops from Everything 1K last week would've fit better in this song. Since the instrumentation here gears more toward pan flutes and acoustic guitars. And you know, it's actually pretty good. And then there's the video where a white Trump supporter confronts a black man with a gun and gets attacked. I don't think the lyrics have anything to do with it, but yeah, I'm alright with this. What a surprise.

3. Reminder

I still think it's weird that this has a video now when it isn't even a single. Wouldn't mind if this did become a single, though. It's one of the better album cuts from Starboy, with the the smooth, low key synthline. Glad it's back for now.

4. How Would You Feel (Paean)

The weakest of the Divide singles so far. Ed Sheeran's downtempo acoustic ballads don't exactly impress me, but it's still serviceable. The pianos and guitars are nice, the lyrics are sweet, if a bit generic. The other singles were more interesting, but eh. Not surprising that there's gonna be guitar ballads on this thing.

5. Love

Okay, I know it's popular to hate Lana Del Rey, but this is actually pretty good. Better than I was expecting. The music's downtempo but has a certain amount of weight to it. It's soothing. I will say I'm not really a fan of Lana's vocal tones on this, but other than that, solid song.

6. Draco

Best Future debut by far, but only due to the production. Electric keys are actually pretty nice and almost mask the fact that the bass and drums aren't really different from the other Future songs at all. Kinda decent. Though the fact that it's the best I've heard on this album is pretty sad.

7. Heavy

Okay, Linkin Park's emo attitudes work best when they bring some anger and passion. Here, the instrumentation is more mellowed, making this pretty insufferable. I will say Chester Bennington and Kiiara have good chemistry, but that's about all this song has going for it. I can tell why this was not well-liked. And I was probably able to stomach it more than most.

8. Dancing On My Own

I thought we all agreed to just listen to the original version by Robyn after this cover fell off the charts. This is just exasperating.

9. Rent Money

Okay, normally I don't pay attention to the lyrics of Future songs because it's pointless, but I'm pretty sure he's still dissing Ciara and faking suicide for attention. Go to hell. Beat's a little better though thanks to the opera vocals in the background. And then, skit that the end. Why?

10. Mask Off

Or, you could try. Instead of pretending there's some mask involved in this mess you call a career. Effort. It exists. I think.

11. Super Trapper

Why is he referencing 9/11 on the hook? That's not a good idea.

12. Zoom

Dead beat is dead. The upper mix might as well not even be there. This sounds unfinished. And then it ends with a podcast skit that...isn't funny. At all.
